Typhoon Alert: The Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a yellow typhoon warning on August 7. This year’s 13th typhoon, 'White Dolphin' (strong typhoon level, category 14), is located about 820 kilometers southeast of Wenzhou over the sea. It is expected to make landfall along the coast from Zhejiang to northern Fujian from the afternoon of the 9th to the morning of the 10th (categories 12–14). Wind speeds along the East China coast will pick up from tonight, and the main port areas in Shanghai and Ningbo have already started typhoon response measures.

1. Ningbo-Zhoushan Port: Full stop of loaded containers at 8:00 PM tonight, empty containers stop at 12:00 PM

According to the Harbor EDI notice at 14:18 on August 6, all major container terminals will uniformly implement:

· August 7, 12:00 PM: Suspended empty container pick-up at North 1/North 2/North 3 terminals, Daxie, Meishan, Yongzhou, Zhenji, etc.

· August 7, 8:00 PM: Full stop of loaded container collection and delivery

· Jiaxing Port is in sync; Wenzhou Zhuangyuan Ao and Jinyang terminals have partially stopped operations

· Resumption time: To be announced

For shipments heading to Ningbo, return of loaded containers must be completed by 8 PM on the 7th at the latest, and the empty container return window closes at 12 PM; for cargo that has already arrived at the port, keep an eye on changes to the ETD with the shipping line, and don't treat any time after 8 PM as the valid arrival time.

2. Shanghai Port: Phased gate closures on the 8th, Yangshan to stop empty container operations at 06:00

The Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration activated Level III flood and typhoon response at 08:00 on August 7, and passenger ferries are suspended. Arrangements at the terminals directly operated by Shanghai International Port Group:

· Yangshan Port Area (Shengdong/Guandong/Shangdong): Stop empty container operations at 06:00 on August 8, stop full container operations at 08:00

· Waigaoqiao/Domestic Trade Port Area (Pudong/Zhendong/Hudong/Mingdong/Yidong/Luodong): Stop empty containers at 08:00, stop full containers at 12:00 on August 8

· Small boats leaving the Huangpu River and ships going down the Yangtze through the Taiwan Strait will follow controlled stops at the 101 light buoy/Liuhe River port boundary

· Resumption time: To be announcedimage.png

August 8–10 will be the core period of storms and rain; the efficiency at the gates will drop with the wind, causing truck queues, ships seeking shelter, and a significant risk of ETD delays.

3. Response Plan

1) Full Container Shipments to the US

- Ship without delay, prioritize containers that can be processed and brought to the port early; if not possible, pre-pull containers in advance.

- Make sure containers are waterproofed and reinforced; prepare US ISF and customs documents in advance.

2) LCL / FCL / Oversized Cargo

- Move goods already in the warehouse to storage as soon as possible to avoid rain exposure.

- During typhoons, pause warehouse deliveries, and add rain protection to uncovered equipment.

3) Post-Sale for Shipping Delays

- Inform domestic or overseas customers immediately about any changes in shipping schedules, explain it’s due to force majeure, and negotiate delivery dates.

- Keep real-time updates on port operations and US shipping schedule changes; assist with rerouting, switching ports, and negotiating with shipping lines to reduce storage or demurrage charges.
