Port operations disrupted in many places! Wildfires rampaging, the country declares a 'state of disaster' in some areas
On January 18 local time, Chilean President Gabriel Boric announced via social media that the Biobío and Ñuble regions have officially entered a state of disaster due to a large-scale forest fire, and he authorized the use of all necessary resources to carry out firefighting and rescue operations.
As of January 20, the fire continued to spread, and the neighboring La Araucanía region also experienced severe fires. As a result, several important ports in southern Chile have experienced varying degrees of operational disruption.

It is reported that the state of emergency in Chile was triggered by wildfires in the southern part of the country, with the damage from the fires affecting communities and transportation infrastructure.
According to reports from Chilean authorities, due to fires and weather conditions, the ports in Ñuble, Biobío, and coastal areas have experienced casualties, large-scale evacuations, and varying degrees of port restrictions.
So far, in the areas most severely affected by the disaster, the operations of ports including San Vicente, Talcahuano, and Lirquén have all been directly impacted by the wildfires.
Port Lirken has completely ceased operations, while Port Saint Vincent and Port Talcahuano can only continue operating under 'restricted conditions.'
In addition, aside from the impact of wildfires, several coastal ports and terminals in Chile are currently experiencing operational restrictions due to adverse sea conditions.
In the northern region of Chile, the Angamos Pier at the port of Mejillones is restricted due to giant waves; in the central region, two piers in Valparaíso are restricted due to similar weather-related swells.
According to Drewry's warning, fires and severe sea conditions are causing uneven operations in Chile's port network, and industry reports also state that this may lead to significant delays in related cargo shipments.
