Major Suspension! MSC and Maersk Announce Suspension Plans for Europe-America Routes During the Spring Festival

Recently, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) issued a notice stating that, in view of the slowdown in transport demand on Asia-to-Europe and Asia-to-US routes during the Spring Festival, MSC plans to adjust its capacity, and multiple sailings to Europe, the Mediterranean, and the United States will be canceled during the Spring Festival.

Previously, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd under the Gemini Alliance had also announced that they would arrange a large number of blank sailings during the Spring Festival. Since February 17 is the Chinese Lunar New Year, this holiday will result in 16 sailings being canceled within the Gemini network, affecting multiple routes including trans-Pacific, Europe, the Arabian Gulf, and eastern South America.

As part of the 2026 Chinese New Year plans, Maersk will implement temporary flight adjustments in its trans-Pacific route network. Considering the reduced export activity during the holiday period, it is necessary to adjust capacity by scheduling flight suspensions to maintain the reliability of the overall network.

According to Hebelot, this suspension will affect seven Asia-to-US routes and five Asia-to-Europe routes.
